Denormalization with WebFocus 7

The process of denormalization of relationships when creating table groups for data stores is of course a trade off between understandability and ease of use of the data store schemas for reporting and analysis and redundancy of data. WebFocus 7 is a product I have found to be very useful in such planning and implementation. The Metadata facilities help group all involved tables in a view to be denormalized into a single paradigm, collapsible by relation and key references which makes the process intuitive when reducing levels of keys in denormalizing relations.

Denormalilzation is never an effortless process and of course, always requires good knowledge of the elements. WebFocus 7 also provides a good programming language(Modify) to move data into the denormalized data store tables. A nifty feature in WebFocus 7 is the ability to quickly see data samples just by clicking on an Metadata construct.

W7

With the latest survey results that Vista has only penetrated about 12% of the Windows Users in terms of primary OS it's not surprising that many IT departments have chosen to wait for 'W7' or Vista2.. The combining of kernels from Vista and Win 2008 Server does not lead one to hope for much better compatiblity in terms of moving applications from XP to W7 though.. I'm afraid there may be a new round of forced upgrades for 'Vista2' eventhough Microsoft is promising better compatibility.
