Oracle EM Grid Control 11g Delayed..

It's been a while since the successful launch of Oracle 11g database, however Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control is still stuck a 10g.. At Oracle World recently I inquired about this issue and learned that it may not be until 2010 that we see Oracle EM Grid Control 11g.

Evidently, recent acquisitions such as BEA have shifted development focus a bit away from the core database product to other directions. EM Grid Control 10.2.0.5 which may be out in early 2009 'should' have most of the features found in the stand alone Oracle 11g Database Control.

In the meantime many have requested that the former EM Console Java App which was not continued in 11g be revived and included in future releases of 11g. The EM Console Java App had a very useful Navigation Tree making it very easy to view and work with objects from any number of instances very easily.

The Table View/Edit Contents feature in the EM Console Java App also had a very good SQL Query Generation Tool. Equivalent functions are not currently found in the DB Console or Grid Control web based systems.

Hopefully focus will return soon to the core database product, since without a strong center the entire tree will weaken..
